Getting a free website is not the easiest thing at first - basically because there are soooo many to choose from. So choosing the provider for your free website is actually the hardest part. Once you have done that most of them have very easy to use systems to make your first simple website.
One example is Mono.net, which is very accesable and easy to use. Starting and running a free website through them is fairly straigth forward. And if you later wish to upgrade to have your own domain also this is a possibility that you can pay for.
Alternatively you can go for a full on homepage, where you need to buy web hosting at a professionel service provider with big server packs to handle these things.
